Thailand Knowledge Center Development Project

Thailand Knowledge Center Project was started in 2005 with the objectives of aggregating all areas of knowledge so that people can access the knowledge at anytime, anywhere through the TKC portal. The content of the TKC is in the form digital multimedia that deems to be useful for education research and career development. Over the past 6 years, MICT has developed infrastructure for storage and management of a large collection of knowledge. New knowledge is added by experts in different areas providing an enhanced channel for new generation who are acquainted with using internet for personal development.

For 2011, the budget allocated for TKC is to revamp the system to add the social media component so that people can access, collaborate, exchange ideas, contribute, filtering, commenting new practice and knowledge in a wider scale and timely fashion. TKC will be a tool for building new knowledge for Thai society in general, government and private agencies in particular.

The development of content and application that are useful for education, healthcare, safety, religion and culture, the conservation of environment, and daily living, including the bridging of digital divide as recommended by the Senate for MICT to be responsible for building the learning society. Consequently, it is imperative that TKC be developed continuously and the content be improved systematically for correctness and timeliness. TKC is aimed for being the principal knowledge web portal of Thailand that can bridge the digital divide, providing universal access and building social equality for developing Thailand into a knowledge-based society.

Summary of TKC Objectives:

To develop TKC to become the national web portal for providing services to Thai people for building Thailand into a knowledge-based society.
To collect and collate knowledge for easy access by anyone regardless and age and sex so TKC become the national online knowledge system.
To develop TKC in accordance with the WCAG standard so as to reduce the problem of accessibility of digital knowledge.
